This Club came about due to student demand and a new partnership between the Academy and our Virginia Beach sister city of Olongapo, Philippines. Our first exchange with students from Olongapo was the spring of 2014 and we celebrated with a Filipino Cafe'. We shared food, music, dance and stories of our life here and in the Philippines.
Students, both Filipino and non-Filipino, wanted to continue to learn more about the Philippines, to get involved with the Filipino culture, and stay in touch with the people we met from Olongapo, and to get ready for our next visit. Those became the goals of the club. We're also the hosts for the Filipino Cafe' and community service events.
The Purpose of the club is to promote the culture and languages of the Philippines, to strengthen the ties between the Academy, THS, and our sister city of Olongapo. The club is open to all students interested in learning more about the Philippines, the culture and languages, or hosting exchange students from, or traveling to, Olongapo, Philippines.
